Located east of I-35W and south of 5th Street, this simple bridge crosses New Brighton Road.
Although aerial imagery shows that a bridge such as this has been in place since at least 1947, it is unknown when the bridge was built, or when it has been upgraded. It is believed that the beam spans may have been replaced in the last 50 years, given the bolts instead of the rivets that are used.
The beams are arranged into a pattern of 2-2, indicating four total beams per track. The beams are approached by trestle spans, and the entire bridge rests on timber substructures.
This type of structure is highly typical for the Soo Line, and most North American railroads. Simple and effective, the design is also easy to maintain and upgrade if need be.
Overall, the bridge appears to be in good condition.
The author has ranked this bridge as being minimally significant, due to the unknown history and common design.
